In 2012, the Department was merged with the Department of Organic and Inorganic Chemistry, and its name was changed to the Department of Biochemistry, Biotechnology, and General Chemistry. Following the reorganization in 2013, when the Biotechnology course was separated, the Department was renamed the Department of Biological and General Chemistry.

The Department’s current research continues the traditional directions established by Professor Stepan Hrytskyi and focuses on understanding the regulation of metabolic processes in animals under both normal and pathological conditions.

Particular attention is given to the study of metabolism in animals during early postnatal ontogenesis, a period crucial for the formation of fundamental bodily functions related to life processes and future productivity. The Department also investigates the effects of individual metabolites on nucleotide metabolism and specific carbohydrate metabolic reactions.
