In the field of research, the department has primarily focused on the development of various dictionaries – translation, explanatory, and abbreviations in veterinary literature (Assoc. Prof. Khomitskyi O.V., Assoc. Prof. Padura M.F.). In 1990, O.H. Pylypiv, a lecturer in Latin, defended her Candidate of Sciences (PhD) dissertation.

A new form of organizing the pedagogical process introduced by the department was the modular rating system, which was developed and implemented as a precursor to the credit-modular system.

The department also conducts foreign language classes for postgraduate students of specialized departments. A significant achievement in the late 1990s was the publication of the German-Ukrainian Zooveterinary Dictionary by Prof. Ostap Khomitskyi (Lviv, 1998, 342 p.). In Ukrainian lexicography, this was the first bilingual dictionary designed to translate German terminology in animal husbandry and veterinary medicine.

At the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and in the specialty Biotechnology (Faculty of Food Technologies and Biotechnology), in addition to a foreign language, Latin is also studied.
