The Department of Aquatic Bioresources and Aquaculture was established in 2005 following the introduction of the corresponding specialty and existing specializations in ichthyopathology and fisheries. Prior to the Department’s establishment, specialists in this field were trained within the Departments of Biology, then Parasitology and Fisheries, and subsequently Parasitology and Aquatic Bioresources.
The Department has prepared a range of textbooks, instructional guidelines, standard curricula, and recommendations for both full-time and part-time study in the field of Aquatic Bioresources and Aquaculture, with specializations in ichthyology and fisheries, ichthyopathology, and aquaculture production technologies.
An ichthyological and ichthyopathological museum of macro- and micro-specimens has been created.
The research activities of the Department’s staff focus on current issues in fisheries, veterinary science, and practical ichthyopathology. The Department previously hosted the Research Institute of Ichthyopathology, Introduction, and Intensive Technologies in Fisheries. Under the targeted program of the Veterinary Medicine Committee of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine and the Fisheries Department, scientific studies were conducted on ecosystem monitoring of aquatic environments, fish parasitoses, and their prevention and treatment. To date, over 50 scientific articles have been published based on the Department’s research activities.
