Head of Department: Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor Yuriy Volodymyrovych Kovalskyi
Among the technological departments of the University, the Department of Production Technology and Processing of Small Animal Products offers the largest number of courses related to various types of small farm animals, including sheep, pigs, poultry, rabbits, and fur animals. Courses in small animal husbandry have been taught historically at the Lviv Veterinary School (1881–1896) and the Academy of Veterinary Medicine (1897–1939).
Lectures and laboratory-practical sessions are conducted in all small animal husbandry disciplines: sheep, pigs, poultry, rabbits, and fur animals. The primary goal of the Department’s faculty is the theoretical and practical training of highly qualified specialists—breeders, production technologists, and processors of animal products—for work in farms, peasant cooperatives, and other enterprises.
The Department supervises the academic and industrial internships of second- and fourth-year students of the Faculty of Biological Technologies. Some student sessions are conducted directly on production sites within farms. Faculty members also deliver lectures and conduct laboratory sessions for students of the Postgraduate Education Institute, covering modern advances in breeding and raising small animals, poultry farming, and new technologies in animal product production.
Department instructors systematically improve the educational process by applying modern teaching methods and programmed monitoring of students’ ongoing performance.
