Head of Department: Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Olesia Yevhenivna Smolinska
Since 2015, the Department has been headed by Professor Olesia Yevhenivna Smolinska, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences. Her scholarly and methodological output includes over 170 publications. Among her notable achievements is third place in the All-Ukrainian Contest “Best Lecturer of the Ukrainian Language in Higher Education Institutions of Ukraine” (2010). She defended her Candidate of Sciences (PhD) dissertation in 1999 on the topic “Linguodidactic Foundations of National-Language Education of the Individual through Ukrainian Folklore”, and her doctoral dissertation in 2015 on “Theoretical and Methodological Foundations of Organizing the Cultural and Educational Space of Pedagogical Universities in Ukraine.” Since 2008 she served as Associate Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Language, and since 2018 as Professor of the Department of Philosophy and Pedagogy.
The academic staff of the Department provide instruction in philosophy, sociology, political science, conflict studies, cultural studies, logic, and pedagogically oriented disciplines, including specialized professional courses. In 2017, the Department gained the status of a graduating (degree-awarding) department. That same year, it launched its first student intake, and in 2018 and 2023 successfully passed accreditation of the Master’s-level educational program “Educational and Pedagogical Sciences.” As of 2025, seven cohorts have graduated in both full-time and part-time modes of study. Our alumni are employed as lecturers at universities, technical colleges, and other educational institutions, and are also engaged in non-formal education and pedagogical support for lifelong learning.
In 2024, the Department launched its first intake into the Bachelor’s-level educational program “Adult Education, Coaching, Tutoring, and Community Organization.”
The Department also places particular emphasis on the quality of doctoral (PhD) training, viewing it as its mission to cultivate ways of thinking and scholarly practices that ensure both successful academic careers and the advancement of Ukrainian education and science.
